I can help out by putting an ad in Craig’s List. What should the ad say for time of the sale? start at 7am??

  2. Heidi says:

    Hi Chris,

I didn’t even think of the time good input. I think Sat 7am to 5pm and Sun 10am to 5pm sounds good. I have been putting signs on all the mail boxes tonight. I have gotten about 8 up..it takes some time. I’ll try to get them on all the mail boxes by tomorrow night. If someone else would like to assist by hitting other neighborhoods let me know which ones you hit.

    Thank you!

  3. Heidi says:

Can anyone add the Community Wide Garage Sale to the Events? Should we make this the First Annual Spring Community Wide Garage Sale?

  4. chris says:

I will add the event to the ‘Events’ !

    btw, http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/gms/1633581566.html

    Thanks Heidi!

  5. Melissa says:

If anyone is a member of duke city fix, that’d be a good place to post an ad as well.

  6. Robert says:

Will folks really sit outside an entire day? Most gargage sale traffic is in the morning.

I think I’m in. Guess I need to see if I have anything to sell.

  7. Melissa says:

I would have to agree with Robert. When we had ours before we moved into our house, most stuff was gone by noon.

  8. Heidi says:

    Hi All,

Thank you for all the input. As far as time I had to make a command decision on the time so I could get the signs and fliers up. I figure people will start up and shut down whenever they want. It should be a good time to meet everyone in the neighborhood!

Kirk and I picked up some poster board today to make some signs for the Gates, by Wal-Mart, Albertson’s and 118th.

    Thank you again!

  9. Heidi says:

Thank you Chris! We are putting up about a 4ft by 5 ft sign this evening by the front gate after we get home from work..fingers crossed. It will be to let the community know about it and to find information on the mailboxes and website, we will then cut it down and use it down at the streets the day of the event.

  10. chris says:

that sounds great! Are you planning on putting an ad in the News Paper? Just curious :) – Maybe you could include the URL to this site there as well! :)

  11. Laura & Joe Kohr says:

We’re definitely in, however, we have one question – is this going to be held at the park or at each persons home? I saw the bit about open houses, but wasn’t sure what that meant. Thanks!

  12. Margo says:

We can gather items for the sale as well. I wanted to ask if the gates are going to be open during this garage sale? ADvertising to people outside of the community puts a worry in my mind. Having people go right through the gates to see we have a park and pool and nice homes makes me wonder what they can do with that knowledge. There has been lots of bad things happening lately. Why can’t we keep it within the community of The Orchards? It would have been nice to set up in the park items and have a nice little refreshment area with sweets and tea.

  13. Heidi says:

    Hi Chris,

I’ll put it in the paper. I do think we should have the gates open for the event. There are going to be too many community members out for outsiders to do anything in our community. If it is not going to be open outside the community then we should not put it in the paper.

    Hi Margo,

I am personally going to have my garage sale in my garage. We have way to many things to pack up twice and take up to the park. I think it should be optional..if people want to put items up in the park go for it..but clean up after.

  14. Heidi says:

    Hi Laura,

As far as open houses, I just figured if someone was selling a house then they could plan for traffic in the neighborhood..just an idea.

    Thank you for your participation.

  15. Laura & Joe Kohr says:

I think it should be an “open community” as far as the event is concerned, it may encourage people to want to buy houses here as well when someone starts building here again. yay!!

I love the idea of making this not only a garage sale, but kind of an everything sale. I think it’s perfect!!!

  16. Heidi says:

Sign is up! If any one see’s two or three more sand bags lying around the sign could use a few more…I only found one.

    Thank you again to everyone!

  17. chris says:

Great work on the sign! Very well done :)

  18. Margo says:

The park was just a thought.. Of course if I did anything at the park I would clean after myself. When I go to the park and see trash I did not do I clean that to.

  19. Heidi says:

    Hi Margo
I’m sorry if you thought I was implying you wouldn’t clean up. I just thought it would be difficult to ensure all would clean up. I do like the drinks in tbe park idea. I’m sure some people will probably be up for setting up in tbe park.

  20. Sherry Hurst says:

Im in for the garage sale, I just got a new washer and dryer so my old set is sitting in my garage waiting for a new home. I’m sure I will be able to find some more items to add during this next week. Great Idea, looking forward to it :)

  21. TheRob says:

My family is in. Richardson Way.

  22. TheRob says:

BTW; Every Friday between 6-7 pm on 770 KKOB they have a “plug your small business” hour. This could be an opportunity for some additional exposure.

I’m usually commuting from Santa Fe at that time, or else I’d volunteer. Any other takers?

  23. Mark says:

I’ll make sure that enTrust gets our gates held open on Saturday the 20th from 6:30AM to 5PM and Sunday the 21st from 9:30AM to 5PM. The half hour early allows people to get in and find the houses with stuff for sale. Besides, my wife told me that often, early birds will get out and try to make offers before “everyone else”…who knew? :)

Heidi is right – anyone who wants to set up in the park can, of course…that’s a great place and easy to see right away.

It might be good if anyone has placed ads or contacted media that they post here to say what media outlets have already been covered…

  24. Porter says:

I wanna thank everyone for putting in the time promoting this event and wanted to express my interest in taking part in the yard sale on this weekend. Already have a some items set aside.

  25. Heidi says:

    Good Morning,
Thank you for getting with the gate people. That will be great.
    Add in Paper:
COMMUNITY WIDE GARAGE SALE: 118TH AND Rio Bravo/Dennis Chavez at the Orchards. Gates Open at 6:30 on Saturday and 9:30 on Sunday. Open houses available to view along with Home Business and Community Wide Garage Sale.
It is running for 7 days..oops..starting tomorrow. I thought I could change the days when I checked ealier. It is also on the Garage Sale map on albuquerque journal online.

  26. Sherry Hurst says:

    Hi Heidi,

I was looking into the newspaper ad yesterday and I also could not change the days online, when I called them they said it wont run the 7 days but only until the last day of the sale. Your ad looks great!

  27. Heidi says:

Thank you Sherry. I hope it works! I forgot how much work a garage sale was…

  28. Heidi says:

Robb-my husband Kirk said he would call 770 friday evening. Thank you for the info.

  29. Deborah says:

I would like to participant tomorrow at the community garage sale. I’m a soy candle maker, I’d like to set up a table with my candles. So I’m understanding, people will be setting up at their own homes, and some will set up at the park. Right?

I love the idea of getting the orchard’s community together!

  30. Brittany says:

We will also be having a garage sale on Richardson Way.

  31. TheRob says:

Anyone still having their sale in the snow?

  32. chris says:

I saw one garage open on my way out the gates this am… :)

  33. Mark says:

    OK, it’s feedback time!

For those who participated, what did you think? Did you have as much traffic as you expected? I know the weather wasn’t really cooperative on Saturday, but Sunday was much better…

Is this event one we should do again, either when school lets out or a few weeks before next school year begins?

    What do you think??
