I suppose the first thing in planning a get-together is to determine a date… someone mentioned the end of September..
So I say… how about in a month?! October 4th? I know that Sunday’s are good for Margo and I, plus the previous week we will most likely be out of town. That’s assuming a weekend works best for everyone.
The next steps would be to pick a place… I heard someone mention the park. I think that’s a great idea.
If everyone agrees on that, we can sign up for something to bring to our potluck… Leave what you want to bring as a Comment and I will keep track of it in the Post…
Input?!
chris :)
PS: I just thought of this, what about having some kind of potluck for Halloween?! Since so many peope will already be out… ? Halloween is on Saturday 10/31. Just a thought :)
I think the first weekend in October would work well, and Sundays are better for me as well. As far as location, the park sounds great.
Monica–Green Chile Stew
Halloween sounds fun as well :o)
I think I like the first weekend in October as well, and either Sat or Sun work for me, doesn’t really matter! I think I got back to Chris on the Halloween idea, and again, my only problem with that is that everyone is going to be out trick or treating, and I’m not sure how many people are going to want to do that. I suppose we could start the potluck earlier on Halloween, say about 4 – that way everyone will be fed and then they can hit the houses for candy!!!
Anywho, I can bring taco salad!!
These are great Ideas. I think the next board meeting is on Oct 15. I think the board should take some sort of part in this. In my previous community we had all sorts of events planned and we ususally held them within a day or two of the actual holiday….other things were bi annual community yard sales, all holiday events, school kick offs, etc.
@Jose,
That sounds awesome.
All,
Based on the feedback from a handful of people, it sounds like our first event should take place on Halloween.
We can bring some food to the park benches around 4:30/5pm and those who have children can go trick-or-treating after that!
chris
My wife and I would love to help out. I think this sounds like fun.
Hi all,
I was wondering how we should get the word out about the Halloween party?? Any ideas?
We were thinking to print a small flyer and take door to door… print the one at the top of the page.
Margo
@Margo
I like the flyer Chris made up and sent via email…think that will work? If so, I don’t mind helping you pass out the fliers, or posting them if you decide to go that route. :o)
Jose, how did your former community actually do the party? I’m wondering about weather etc?
the events were scheduled ahead of the actual day, so that we would not take away from family time. so for instance in October, the event should be scheduled for the 30th in the early evening and have a two hour limit. In the event of bad weather, we would have to cancel the event. Sad but the only option. the event would be geared towards the kids….so a costume contest…the board actually had a budget for the events.
Thanks Monica for your help. If we do pass the flyers to homes or post them we could use your help so we will let you know. ;)
The day before Halloween will not work for me because I work. However Chris will be able to help.. I think Halloween day will work as people are off and familys are always looking for things to do.
Hopefully if we pass the signs early we can draw people to come and also to assist in the fun.
Good mornng all!
October 31 sounds good to me. I think the time is good also, since many of us will be busy later in the evening with other family obligations. This potluck would be a great starting point to kick off a night of trick or treating!
In any case, I’ll have to figure out what to bring, but we plan on being there!
This sounds great! I’m excited to meet people in the neighborhood! We will most likely be there, but I’ll commit to bringing something once we know our schedule for sure!
Oh yea, and I LOVE Jose’s idea of community yard sales! I think we should try to do this before the holidays!
My wife and I are in! Chris (or whoever) let me know if I should bring something.
Matt
Matt – Yes! Bring whatever you’d like!
Check out the top of this page for who’s bringing what.
chris
Spice Cookies and Brownies
We’ll bring pumpkin cookies and cider.
We will bring some sweet treats (cupcakes and cookies) and possibly some hot cider. :) Sounds fun!!! Let me know if you want help with the flyers!
I’m available early Saturday and all day on Sunday. Please let me know when to pick up the invites, my “territory” and I’m on it. :o)
How about 8am on Sunday? :)
chris
We’ll be there, will have to let you know later what we’ll bring. Is this a snacks only event, or do we need main dishes as well?
I really appreciate the handing out of the invites – we didn’t know about this website until we received it! And, thanks to Chris for setting the site up!
-Julia
Hi Julia,
This is not a snacks only event – you can bring whatever you’d like. I was actually thinking of draggin’ my grill over and preparing hot dogs… I do have to work that night so that’s still up in the air.
btw, you are most welcome and many thanks to you for commenting and we will be looking forward to seeing you at the party!
-chris
Heidi & Kirk will bring Chili
Hey Chris, just wanted to let you know that I wanted to change our entree for the potluck from Taco Salad to Quesadilla’s – might be a little easier to eat :) Glad to have met you at the meeting, looking forward to meeting everyone at Halloween!!!
Hi All,
Just wanted to add that I will bring green chili chicken enchiladas and rice to the list. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Jenn
The food that everyone is bringing sounds so good. Thank you to everyone for getting our community together at this potluck.
@Faith,
What kinds of activities/games would you like to see?
I’ll add your item to the list at the top of this page! :)
chris
I am excitied to see that we are coming together as coumminity to make this halloween a fun and safe event for all. I love to play games and I hope that there is more to this event them just food. Am willing to bring some homemade popcorn balls.
We are going to have a Best Dish contest. I will pass out vote cards to the people that bring dishes. The prize will be a lovely candle that will make your home smell so good. Anyone else that would like to participate in activities post away…. :)
I’m thinking that I can also bring my grill and tackle hamburgers… We’ll have all of the Great American Picnic Foods covered! :) I will raid Costo or Sams to get 50 pre-formed patties and buns. However… It would be helpful if someone could take on the ketchup, mustard, relish (dill and sweet), onions, cheese, and mayo… I’m thinking a picnic-sized bottle of each, 4 onions, and about 50 slices of cheese (for 50 burgers).
We can bring Ketchup and Mustard…..
My kids are very excited and as an Orchards resident, I would very much love to bring my kiddos to the festivities. I will be bringing caramel apples! Just try to go easy on me guys, Im just a neighbor!
Yahhh! Margo and I are very much excited to get a chance to get to know our neighbors! It will be fun!
I have some paper plate and some plastic cutlery, I’ll bring what I have, it’s not tons, but any thing I’m sure will help!
I picked up some napkins, plastic cutlery, plates as well. Not tons but am bringing what I have as well.
I picked up some lettuce, tomato, onion and will bring some roasted green chili for the burgers – and Margo and I will also be bringing some plates/bowls…
I just thought of this – will there be anything to drink!? Any volunteers??!!
chris
I will bring some drinks
I can bring cheese and onions and cola
see ya
this site is kool
will have to explore it more
…and building a community will be good
for safety, etc…..
chris m
We’re coming, I just put pumpkin bread in the oven, so we’ll be a little late. Thought it was goig to be another cold day, so didn’t think we’d be able to do the event. Thankfully, it’s beautiful!
